The Move Part 2

We did it! It was not as smooth of a move as one could hope for, but we did move! It started out with us being so excited that we got up real early, tore the contents of the entire house apart, and then moved it onto the lower porch to wait until Paul got there with the truck, which was scheduled for 8 a.m. Then we got busy cleaning to pass the time until the truck got there. We waited, and waited and waited…all of us checking to see if our watches were still working. Spirits were drooping by the time 11a.m. rolled around, but they were instantly revived by the arrival of Paul! He had been delayed at the school that morning…a missionary has a million jobs to do, and they usually happen when you have other things planned.

I took Destiny, Hannah, a very sick Memewah, and Sehdoe in the truck to unload things at our new house, while Roy kept the other half of the family to finish cleaning and getting things ready to go. I was really surprised at how much things have changed since the last time I was down this way. It is so beautiful, and the further you go down the road, the more jungle like and simple things look.

I have never seen the new property that the Adams bought, so moving in was also my introduction. It is spectacularly beautiful. I was so impressed. And the house, although extremely small, is the nicest bamboo hut you can imagine! It is a combination of bamboo and wood. I could not have been happier with it. It was not quite done though, which was a great cause of concern to me for a while since there was no railing around the middle of the living area yet. I should not have concerned myself about it at all, as it turns out. Destiny was so traumatized by the move that she would not let me put her down all day long! But, at a few words from Lena, an energetic crew came and immediately started installing railings. Today, the railing and the gate are completed! We don’t have electricity yet, or water at the house, but I hear that those things will be coming really soon.

Anyway, while I was holding Destiny, unable to help unload the truck, Lena decided to show me around. The grounds here are like a beautiful park, and really well kept up. She showed me the buildings, which busy crews of students and helpers were finishing. It was so refreshing to see smiling faces and happy children.

But, I am still rather weak from being so sick, so in my clumsiness, I stepped on a nail, which promptly went through my shoe and well into my poor little foot! After treating that little injury and limping back to my house, I was immediately bit by one of those killer ants, which I seem to have packed in my baggage! This was followed by kicking the saw that our kind gardener was using to build the railing to my house! I think that Murphy’s law was kicking in or something…if something can go wrong, it will go wrong.

The next thing on the agenda was that Paul once more drove off in the truck to get another load. I was happily putting things away several hours later when Travis called and asked me where Paul was. Huh? Isn’t he there? I asked. Well, turns out that their very old truck had lost an axle or something serious like that, and had to be taken to a shop to get fixed. Believe it or not, they fixed it and then headed down to our old house with TWO trucks, so that they could get the rest of our stuff quickly since nighttime was approaching. But, after they left, Maria called and said that her bike (along with her) had a bit of an accident and she needed a truck to go and get it so that nobody would steal her bike! So, one truck headed into the hills to rescue Maria while the other truck continued on to our old place to get the rest of our stuff and family.

Happily, that trip was successful and they did not have any more incidents, but they got here rather late, and unloaded everything into the house, and we all collapsed into our beds, minus mosquito nets. (Sure hope God kept all the malarial mosquitoes away.)

I am just blown away by everything that the Adams have been able to accomplish here so far. When we were here before, the place was rather primitive…to say the least. Now, pretty sidewalks, lined with flowers meander through the lime orchard. Swings hang from the trees for the children, gardens are flourishing, there is a feeling of peace and happiness here. God has indeed blessed this school, and we are happy to be able to have a small part in what is happening here.
