The Little Red Skirt

This morning while I was changing Hannah, I quickly discovered that all my running around had been disastrous to my little daughters wardrobe! She had no clean clothing at all. So, while Gayle kindly offered to watch my little angel for me, I dashed off to the well to get that laundry caught up.

My little angel after Kentegee got ahold of her hair.

Upon my arrival, I discovered the one little outfit that I had washed when I first got home was now covered with ants! I mean COVERED! It looked like an ant hill, with masses of little black ants all over it. There was a thick line of marching ants all the way across the cement, up the post, and across the piece of bamboo, all marching back and forth between who knows where and the little outfit. My heart sank as I looked at it. How in the world was I supposed to get those ants off without getting eaten to death? Those ants bite like crazy and I am kind of a wimp when it comes to pain. The shirt did not have as many ants as the skirt, so I grabbed that and started beating it against the post. Those ornery ants flew off, landed on me, and started munching away with great glee. Now I had to not only beat the shirt on the post, but frantically swat the nasty critters at the same time! After finally exterminating the entire crop of ants on the shirt and on me, I sat down at the laundry tub to contemplate my next line of attack. I glanced up at the mass of wriggling skirt…the task seemed impossible. I contemplated asking the boys to come and help me with that skirt, but that didn’t seem very nice. So, as I scrubbed away at the mountain of laundry, I just talked to the Lord about it. ” Father, I don’t know what to do. Should I get it wet, and drown the ants? Well no, I can’t do that because Hannah has nothing to wear and she needs to wear that skirt…should I do what I did with the shirt…(another glance)….no, there are so many ants that there is no place I could grab it without getting eaten up. I react to those ant bites, and so I might be out of commission for a week if I did that….well Lord, I wish that you would just make them go away.”  And so the conversation went as I finished up that laundry. When I was done, I decided to hang my sarongs out on the bamboo instead of carrying them back into the house. ( hoping that it would not rain while I am gone) As I hung each piece up, I glanced at the skirt…it was still a writhing mass. When I finished hanging up my last sarong, I turned back to the shelter to tackle that little skirt when I suddenly saw a HUGE change! There were 3 ants on that little skirt! The lines of ants were still marching, but they were stopping about 1/4 inch from the skirt now. I don’t know where all the ones went that had been on the skirt, but there was no sign of them. I am positively certain that God removed those little ants to show how much he cares about the little things that affect our daily lives. I want each person reading this to know that the day of miracles is not past. God cares so much about each one of us, and if we trust Him, he is more than willing to help us in every time of need.
