Spicy Peanut Butter?

I am not sure which boy came up with the idea first. But  there seems to be an absence of good peanut butter in Asia, and we really like peanut butter! So, one of the boys started experimenting, or maybe both Jason and Andrew did it separately, but anyway, they both told me that they had mastered making peanut butter in a mortar and pestle. I decided that it would be really wonderful to have some peanut butter on our bread for Sabbath, so I bought two bags of raw peanuts, and mentioned to Kentegee, our head cook, that it would be great to have peanut butter for Sabbath.( we do not cook on Sabbath since it is such hard work, and our food will not last that long if we cook on Friday, so we always have fruit and bread for Sabbath) She got a worried expression on her face, and told me that I should have told her that on Sunday so that she would have time to make it! But, when I got back from doing laundry and taking my bath, Kentegee and Seh Doe were both sitting on the floor of the kitchen with mortars and pestles, pounding away at those peanuts. They had never made peanut butter before, and were waiting to add the water until I got there! I was really happy that they decided to wait for me since peanut butter does not have water in it at all! So, I decided to sit there on the floor and offer either help or encouragement, whichever they would accept. (they almost never let me help)

Making Peanut Butter

When the first batches resembled peanut butter, we carefully scraped the precious stuff into a plastic container, and that is when we first noticed that Seh Doe’s peanut butter was rather yellow looking. They had taken peanuts out of the same container to pound, so how in the world did his get yellow?

See the yellowish peanut butter?

Upon questioning, I found that they had borrowed that mortar from the neighbor, and had washed it out before using it. But, when I went to taste the suspicious concoction, it had the definite flavor of chilies! Chili flavored peanut butter? Now don’t run down to the patent office yet, we came up with it first!
