Have you ever been ashamed to be an American? Or just to have white skin? I have. Travis and I are in Lao again for our “evil” visa run, and we found out that we are going to be stuck here for 2 more days since the embassy chose this very day to have a holiday! Tomorrow morning we go and turn in our passports, and then the next day, we have to go and pick them up. So, that brings me back to the present. Travis and I decided to walk around and see if we could find a cheaper place to eat than the one we went to this morning. So, we hiked around for quite a while, and we came to the conclusion that here in this area, you can sleep cheap, but you can’t eat cheap, even if you just go to the grocery store. It costs us about $11 dollars for ONE meal! We are used to eating for ONE dollar! But, that is not what I was going to tell you about. As we were walking around, we saw many white faces. We have come to dread white faces, which is a really sad thing to have to say! I am not sure why, but there are many, many bad people who come to visit Asia. I assume that they are bad due to the way they are undressed, or because of the prostitute that is hanging on their arm. I was at the internet place one day when a lady walked into the shop wearing only her underwear!! Knowing the locals like I do, they will be very polite to such people, but they are so horrified that many Asians do not like white people anymore. We have to live with the prejudice that they create. The local gas station has given us many problems due to the fact that we are white. They tell us that there is no gas, when there is gas. Many times the boys have had to argue with them, or wait until an Asian who also needs gas to come , just to fill the motor bike up. This is really sad when you think about it.The good news is that now that they are getting to know us, the prejudice is being broken down. I really don’t have the answers to all the problems in this world, but it does make it clear to me that how we dress and act does mean a lot. The world is watching you, Christian, what are you showing them? Can the world see Jesus in you?
