What a blessing to be able to see God working. I just returned from attending the little church that is being held at the school that I began to help several months ago. The service was conducted by some of the lay pastors that are attending pastor Phamor’s school of evangelism. Ben is the principal at this school which is a few kilometers away.
I was sitting there listening to the lesson study. It was in Karen and I only understand English but I felt like I was in a real SDA sabbath school class. The teacher had all the right gestures and he was interacting well with everyone. When he posed a question there was no hesitation, everyone answered in unison. Remember Ben and pastor Phamor in your prayers. They are doing a great job in a much needed work.
I really need to learn the language, and I intend to soon, but I want to tell how God has blessed anyway. Several weeks ago, on a Friday, Chris Olhson and I went to visit this school. I only took my Bible and a few story books. We were told that most of the students had gone picking vegetables. So going down to the dorm we found 3 boys, and they were very surprised to see us. I went in and began trying to talk to them. With lots of gesturing and simple language learning we were soon laughing. After I had exhausted all my language skills, 13 smaller boys came in and sat down expectantly. It didn’t seem proper to repeat everything, so I began asking their ages and their grades. After asking them if they could stand on their heads, a demonstration was in order. That was all it took to break the “iceâ€. Then the fun really began. Although some of the older boys were a little shy, I felt on top of the world. They were all trying to be the first to shake my hand when I left.
The next Friday I went alone. I was told by the principal that they were waiting for me but that she had told them that I might not come. Soon 16 boys and 4 girls were greeting me. One of the girls could speak good English and she began to translate for me. When I asked what they wanted to do with their lives, I learned that there would someday be 4 teachers, 3 pastors, 2 doctors, 1 nurse, 2 generals, and 1 soldier. Some were undecided. Soon I pulled out some character building stories and began to read. They were spellbound! When I was about ready to go, I asked them what they enjoyed the most and they responded with “storiesâ€.
So yesterday we enjoyed good stories and finished up with a game of jump over the ball. It was new for them but they had fun.
God is good. The people are hungering for the truth. Even though I can count on one hand my Karen words, God is making it possible to share the gospel.
