Running Around

Last week, I had that wild goose chase to Mae Sot, and this week finds me in Cambodia. I am sitting here on the floor of the TV studio, watching Andrew try to fix my computer. Yes, you are right…a broken computer is a major catastrophe for me!

I had to come to Cambodia on my evil visa run, and so I decided to run on up to Andrew’s place so that he can fix all my techy stuff that needed fixing. (Andrew says that this visa run is not evil since I came to see him)  I have put this trip off as long as possible, since it means leaving Hannah and Meme behind, but since Jason needs his computer back, I figure that it is a huge emergency now. I am sure that God invented computers for my benefit, because I think that I would not be able to be a missionary without one! How did they do it a hundred years ago???

Last week turned into a blur of activity since my two new student missionaries came. Roy and I picked them up at the airport and then he headed on for his visa run, and I took them shopping and then to home. I stayed home just long enough to witness our new student missionaries “trial by fire”. It happened this way. Travis, Roy and I had already gone to bed, and were thinking about drifting off to sleep when I heard a bit of commotion coming from the girls room. Wanting to sleep, I snuggled deeper into the blankets when I was rudely interrupted by the less than relaxing words of “fire, FIRE”. Now, when you live in a bamboo and grass house that is one word that gets you out of bed quickly. I arrived in the girls room just in time to see Maryanne sitting on the floor with an empty water bottle still in midair, pointed at the corner of the room, shocked looks plastering each of the 5 girls faces.  It seems that when the girls went to get ready for bed, they discovered an army of biting ants in the corner of the room, along with some snails and a huge green bug. Pawkuhmooeydee was the hero of the hour and quickly disposed of the snails and the big green bug, then she ran to the kitchen for the ant spray. The ants in the mean while had decided to explore the intricacies of the girls blankets. On the other side of the wall, Thunduh settled down to her studying by the light of a candle. Pawkuhmooeydee came back and sprayed the ants thoroughly with ant spray, at which the ants proceeded to keel over dead on the floor. But then it happened! Unbeknown  to our hero of the hour, ant spray is terribly flammable, and soon a fire erupted, much to everyone’s discomfort. It seems that the burning candle in the next room was responsible for the fire. Due to the fast thinking of the girls, it was quickly extinguished and no lasting harm was done, other than possible psychological damage, which we are monitoring carefully.

I am still sick, but I figure that it is OK. While home I was able to carefully examine all the artwork on the walls of the outhouse. Plus, I came up with an excellent exercise routine. Run quickly up the hill to the outhouse, do a few deep knee bends in the outhouse, then do a nice cool down walk back to the house. If repeated once every 20 minutes during the day, you should see results quite rapidly.
