Meeting The Needs

This morning Hannah and I are in the bedroom, she is playing with her toys, while I finish up my worship time and then pull out my computer for some writing. Roy is in the living room with the students and Elani, giving another bible study. The other day, we had a “family counsel” to find out if everyone’s needs were being met. We found out that our students wanted more bible study! So, now Roy is really busy, preparing and giving 3 hours of bible study every day. That seems like a lot to me, but they are so anxious to learn. I wish that I could think of kids asking for more bible study as being normal, but I can’t! So you might also be able to relate to how exciting it is for me to see this.

You remember the other day when I told you about Jason’s accident, and how he did not have the money to pay for all the demands of the guy who ran into him? I told you that we were praying about it? Well, I was thinking that God needed to send us more money, but God had a different idea in mind! Yesterday Jason called, and said that Phimpa, a really nice Thai Christian lady who runs a rescue orphanage for children in danger, came to the school to visit. She just happened to be there when this man came with his demands for more money. Well, Phimpa has the habit of KNOWING the laws in Thailand, and she told Jason that what this man was doing was against the law! She not only told Jason that, but she told the man also. So, it looks at this point that Jason will only have to pay for repairs to the man’s motor bike, which will not cost near as much as buying a new one! Keep praying about it, but I think that God knows just what he is doing there.  (It is not at all unusual for the people here to try to take advantage of Americans, since they think that we are all rich.)

Another need that I had, that I have not told many people about yet was that Ben wanted someone to replace him for 6 months so that he could go back to America for some evangelism training. I did not know where in the world to find someone who was qualified and willing to go. So, I was praying, and to tell you the truth, getting a little frustrated since it is so hard to find people who want to serve these days. But, when Elani came, she immediately expressed interest in going! I was so excited! God is in the business of answering prayers, that is for sure. Now, I just have to find people to go where I was planning to send her….and I still have to find someone for Bilay…  But maybe God is in charge of that problem also???

Now, this one might be hard for some of you to appreciate, but one of my problems has been that my sarongs are starting to wear out. I had them all tailored when I was up at Chiang Mai, but I had not found anyone to do it down here. (Chiang Mai is like 20 hours away from here) But, when Elani came, she needed sarongs tailored also. (If we do not get them tailored, we spend our days retucking sarongs instead of getting anything accomplished) So, we went shopping, found a couple of really nice sarongs for Elani, and then I started trying to figure out where to get the seams sewed up. God brought to my mind the Muslim side of the market, where I hardly ever go. I went in there and started asking questions, and they led me to a woman with a sewing machine. She tailored Elani’s sarongs in about 3 hours, and did a perfect job of it! So, today I will take my pile of new sarongs down there and get them tailored also. I know that it is a little thing, but God really does care about little things!
