I don’t want to leave you with the impression that we are not enjoying our trip to Lao….well maybe I do! As I was typing that last sentence, they just turned rock music way up here in the Internet place! It was nice and peaceful before. Oh well. We are learning to tune things out here. Yesterday did turn out to be mostly nice. While I was here writing yesterday, Roy and Tremaynne went exploring and found the Lao Mission offices. He met a missionary there, and the conference president and some others. They helped us find a tuk tuk to take us out to the English Language school, where we met more of the people we had read about in the AFM magazine! The school is very nice, and the people there were really friendly. They tried very hard to get Travis to stay and teach in their school. It might have been a temptation if it were not in a big city. We are definitely not city folk anymore. After that we went back to our cozy room and rested. ( we knew from experience that it is hard to sleep at night, so you have to sleep when sleeping is possible)
I was determined that Roy not miss out on the noise again, since he was looking at me a bit skeptically about the music at night. So, I waited until it got really bad, and then I woke him up! ( what are loving wives for anyway?) It is actually pretty strange. I am not sure how they do it. You can’t really hear music, you just hear something really loud, and feel these strong vibrations that shake the building, the furniture, the floor, just everything! It makes you feel helpless, and like you are really not in the right location! I have to pray my way through it, or I might freek out or something. Then, just when you feel like you can’t take anymore, it just quits. Blessed relief!
Since our phones do not work here, we have not been able to tell Paul and Lena what happened, and why we did not arrive this morning. They were expecting to pick us up at the bus station in Chiang Mai today, but obviously that is not going to happen. Both Roy and I are all in favor of year visas for all missionaries! I don’t think we have appreciated just what it meant when our boys told us that they had to do a visa run. But, from now on, when we hear visa run, we are going to call all our family, friends, enemies, people we meet on the street, and BEG them to pray! We can’t wait to get back to the school!
