Jason’s Little Patient

When Jason first moved up to Sunshine Orchard School, he was drawn to a little 7 year old orphan that was living with the Adams, named MemeWah. Her mother had died when she was born, and she had been raised by a single Aunt, until the Aunt gave her to the Adams family. This little one was not accepted at the school very well, and she didn’t seem to really fit in anywhere when she first arrived. This is probably the reason that Jason took such a liking to her. He spent a great deal of time playing with her, and making her laugh.

Yesterday, after having a good lunch, and playing with Jason for a while, she went and laid down in the hammock. When Lena walked by a while later, she noticed that MemeWah did not look well, so she went over to check. The little girl had an extremely high temperature, so Lena called Jason to carry her to the shower room quick. There, they put her into a tub and started filling it with cold water. Lena then remembered that Paul was going to town, so she went running to stop him so that they could take MemeWah to the hospital. Jason then stepped into the room in time to see her fall unconscious into the water. As he lifted her head out of the water, he noticed that she had stopped breathing. Now Jason has never really been trained  to do medical work, but he did have to be our guinea pig when Andrew and I were in training, so he knew just what to do in this situation. Jason has also been blessed with a quick mind to act calmly under any circumstance. So, he held her airway open, while Paul and Lena got the truck ready for a flying trip to the hospital. If he let her go, she would stop breathing. She did not regain consciousness all the way to the hospital, and Jason had quite the time keeping her breathing while Paul zoomed around all those corners. Both Jason and I want to thank Thompson Falls Ambulance for making us practice all those procedures so much! (they didn’t tell me to use my kids as patients, but I did, and it has helped both Jason and Travis since coming here)

MemeWah was transferred to a larger hospital, but today she is on life support and the prognosis is not good. They suspect that she has Japanese encephalitis, since they have seen several similar cases in the past few weeks, but they don’t have a final diagnosis yet.  Please pray that God’s will would be done in this situation, and also pray that He would comfort the Adams and Jason during this difficult time.
