Honesty

After worship this morning, the caretaker and his wife came over to visit. He had stopped coming to see us, and he had also stopped doing any work here at the training center. He mostly just works on his broom business now. We don’t know what happened, or why all the changes have occurred, but this is the way things are now.  Kentegee had told us that he beats his wife, and I believe that it embarrassed him to know that we knew about it. His wife was also caught stealing from us, and that may also be a reason. Anyway, so having him come over was an unusual occurrence. He asked us to pray for him since he is having pain in his neck and head. He had a motor bike accident a few years ago that really messed him up. So, we prayed for him, gave him some vitamins, he talked to Pearl for a while and left.

Pearl then turned to me, looking rather uncomfortable and told me that the caretaker had told her about another child who needs a home… this time a 5 year old girl. Would we take her? I told Pearl that I would need to have more information. She told me that this little girl was not a Christian, but that her mother had already agreed to sign papers for her. But, there was something about Pearl that made me wonder. So, I called Roy into the room and told him all about it. Pearl then turned to me and told me that even though she had been told not to tell me the truth, she just had to! She said that Hannah’s father had just gotten remarried for the 13th time, and that his new wife was trying to give us her daughter. I am SO THANKFUL for an honest interpreter! We told her that in that case, we would not even consider taking this little girl. She has two parents, and they have enough money to take care of her themselves. Plus, the fact that both the caretaker and the father were trying to trick us is not in their favor!

It may seem like there would be a reason for getting upset with these people. But, we realize that they need Jesus very badly. We love our caretaker and his wife, even if they are not doing what is right. We want them to know Jesus, and let Him change their lives. These dear people are out giving bible studies all the time, and sharing the things that they know…but they have not met a personal savior yet. Even Hannah’s father was recently baptized because of our caretaker and his bible studies. But, he is not a changed man. When Jesus comes into our lives, there is a difference! We cannot stay the same person that we were. Old things are passed away, and all things become new. Please help me to pray that these people will have an encounter with Jesus that will change their lives so that the work can be finished here, and we can all go home.
