I am not exactly sure how it happened. It must have been when I was not looking….but Hannah suddenly turned into a toddler. She is not a baby anymore. I am actually a bit worried about it since last time I checked she was still a baby. Senility doesn’t start at 40 does it?
She has made major strides forward in her behaviour in the past few months. She does not scream and yell very often anymore, and as long as Mommy and Daddy are both home and paying attention to her cute antics, she is perfectly happy. If one of us is missing, she is worried and jumps every time she hears a motor bike.
As far as her birthday goes…it was a total flop. My bank account was totally depleted because our monthly check had not arrived yet, and I was counting every single sheckle as being of the utmost importance, so presents and goodies were out of the question. Then, I was rather worn out, and not up to being a whole lot of fun, so poor Hannah had to turn two without much fanfair. But that doesn’t lessen the fact that she successfully turned two! Maybe presents and goodies can come later.
Hannah has turned into a little parrot. For instance…I was really sick yesterday with a high fever. Hannah came over, put her hand on my forehead and said, “oh my, sick…hotâ€. (she sees me check people all the time) Then, last night I was so sick that I forgot to put a diaper on her for bedtime. Needless to say she woke up crying in the middle of the night due to having wet her bed. So, since Daddy is quite the softy with his girls, she ended up sleeping in our bed the rest of the night. This morning when Hannah woke up, she reached over and kissed Daddy fondly on the cheek and then gave him a back rub!
Hannah just ran in here to tell me that now her dolly is sick. She sounds very concerned. I think that the dolly has a fever, since she had her hand on it’s forehead. I told her to put the baby to bed, so she ran out to the hammock to rock her to sleep!
Sometimes it can be intimidating when you actually have the time to stop and think about it. When your every word and action is copied by not only Hannah, but by all of our little girls, and the students also. I remember well the first time Pearl looked me in the eye and said “I seeâ€, when I was explaining something to her. I had never thought about it before… that I use “I see†for “I understandâ€. They pay attention to our every word and imitate it. Yesterday I told Memewah that something was “cuteâ€, so for the rest of the day I heard about the “cute†water, the “cute†mountain, the “cute†food… They think that if we do it, then it is the good and right way to do things! If ever we needed the Holy Spirit to guide our every thought and word, it is now when we have such huge responsibilities.
This is off the subject…but speaking about responsibilities….we got word the other day to get ready for 10 students that will be hiking for about a week to get here. They are not planning to come until May, but they are planning to come! I don’t know what to do. That is far too many people for this tiny little house. The girls are already packed into their rooms like big franks in a can. Please pray that we will get the resources that we need to build the dorm quick so that we can be ready for these kids!
Each child that God sends us is a blessing. We are so thankful for this opportunity to raise our children for Jesus.
