Almost Walking On Water

This is pretty neat. Today my house turned into…well…it feels like a boat, but maybe it is one of those neat places built over the water. But in this case, it sounds like it is over a water fall, a very loud water fall! The creek was already a bit high to start with, and then it started to rain. Not just any rain, but it really rained!

This is the rain.

(right after three of my students headed to town on a motor bike…they got drenched) Now, several hours later, the creek is more like a river, and it has changed it’s course to include running under and around my house.

The water is rising.

It has also changed it’s color considerably. It started out being a great place to wash the dishes, and get water for cooking,

Seh Doe and Pawkuhmooeydee doing dishes in the creek, while Pearl is perched in the tree.

but now it looks rather like a mud puddle…a fast moving mud puddle.

The fast moving mud puddle.

Already, the water is about a foot below our rickety bridge, and it will take one brave motor bike driver to go to town this afternoon!

The bridge. Our motor bike trailer has fallen through this thing repeatedly!

I like the sound of the water, but it is hard to carry on an intelligent conversation without sounding mad, since we have to yell at each other to be heard. The problem with that is that most of us have really sore throats! But, that is appropriate isn’t it? We sound like frogs!

Looking over the living room wall, towards the kitchen, and the normaly tiny little waterfall.

Hannah and Meme can now lay on their tummies on the floor and watch the water rush by.They were fascinated with that for quite some time.  It has given new meaning to shutting the gate though! I don’t want Hannah to get outside, that is for sure!

Looking over the living room wall towards the back of the house. Down below used to be the garden, now it kind of has the appearance of a river!

Another neat thing about our present situation is that while cooking, you can just stuff your potato peals, and whatever down the cracks in the floor, and whoosh! There goes the garbage disposal, and we are not likely to see it again!

The rocks in the field. I thought that it was pretty in the rain.

It has put a bit of a damper on the work program though. We tried pouring a footing the other day, and the sky decided to add a bit more water to the concrete mix, and presto… we had cement soup! It did work though.  But, today, we would have had broth, so we decided to wait until we have a better day for pouring concrete!

The future kitchen. The thing in the middle is where we mix the concrete since we do not have wheelbarrows. Then we use little buckets to put the concrete where we want it.

It is still raining, and the water continues to rise, but I have been assured that it will not come up above the floor!

A rose on the bush that I planted.

PS- As I post this, it just started to rain hard again!

  1. Isn’t this good for the rice growing? Is everyone there celebrating? It rained really hard here in Tennessee the other day and we had water running through our garage and flooding the room next door. Wish we were there! Hope you get well!
