A New Start

Today finds me sitting in a “new” house, with oven-like breezes blowing through, in a spectacular mountain location with a river flowing gently below me. Goats are playing amongst the trees while families of chickens wander around scratching and pecking. We landed here with all our stuff yesterday. Our home is on the property of a government school that we will be teaching at in order to makes friends in this unreached area. We plan to stay here for only a short amount of time, we hope, while searching for a good location to build our new school.

We are planning to build a private school where we can not only teach the students the three R’s, but also teach them about a God who died to save them. The only way that the millions in Asia are going to learn about Jesus and his soon return is to enlist helpers in spreading the word. Our experience with our own students is that once they know, they want to share. Recently, Travis was chatting with one of our old students, and he told him that he wanted to come back to us, but there were just so many villages that needed to be reached that he did not have time. We would love to have more students like that!

Already, little groups of students, as well as adults, come to sit in our living room to visit. Everyone wants to learn English, so making friends has been really easy so far. We have certainly felt more welcomed here than we have at any other location. A lot of prayer went into choosing this location, and we feel God’s blessing, although we don’t expect it to be easy since we are encroaching upon Satan’s territory.

A lot depends on the next few weeks. So please pray that God would give us wisdom and guidance, as well as a positive reception from those we need to get permission from in order to proceed with our new school.
