This past week has been really slow, since I sprained my ankle pretty bad and cannot get around much.( I left my crutches in America) But, today my loving family decided to liven things up a bit!
We had company today, which was nice except that I can’t understand much of what they say, so they chat merrily with Travis or the girls, while I sit and wonder what they are talking about this time. Not the most entertaining thing to do, but I think that I manage to smile at the right times anyway. But, that is not what made my day less boring. It happened when our company needed a ride back to the bottom of the mountain so that they could hike home.
Ahmesow had just ripped up another pair of shorts….so he was sent to his room to fix them while Destiny and I sat in the hammock. (I still can’t walk much since I sprained my ankle) The rest of the family decided that they wanted to accompany our guests to the base of the mountain as a much needed diversion. So, they jumped on the motor bike, and trailer, and happily headed out on their adventure.
I had a little talk with Ahmesow, and then hobbled out to the other hammock to rest my foot some more. I had not been there long when I saw Pawkuhmoeeydee come laughing down the path, yelling something about bringing me some patients. Meme and Memewah were with her, and they were holding their arms, with strained looks on their faces. I looked at them, then I looked at Pawkuhmooeydee….well, it can’t be too bad if she is smiling and laughing that much. Pretty soon they reached me and showed me their road rash. It seems that they had been going up a steep hill when the motor bike stalled, and they found themselves racing rapidly back down the hill, with the trailer full of people… now in front rather than behind like a good trailer should be. Pawkuhmooeydee and Momat jumped off of the trailer, but the others were not quite as quick, and hence the road rash. They told me that Roy tried desperately to hold the motor bike back, but after his flipflops gave up, his bare feet were the only brakes available, which work well, but they wear out rather quickly under such wear and tear. So, the inevitable crash came in spite of his heroic efforts. They landed in a deep ditch beside the road.
Pretty soon, more survivors came up the path. The next to arrive were Thunduh, who was carrying Hannah. I was anxious to find out how Hannah had fared, and so I asked her if she was hurt. She held up her finger that she cut yesterday and showed me her terrible owie. Well, I had to swallow my smile quickly and make the appropriate concerned sounds otherwise who knows what might have been invented next! I was really happy that she was not hurt though. Thunduh also was unhurt. Last of all, Roy came limping up the path. I am not sure if his limp was due to his skinless toes, or his broken flip flops….but in any case, he had more and worse road rash than all the rest of them combined…which accounts for my great day! I LOVE to doctor people up! (Hey…my EMT motto is that No, I don’t want people to get hurt, but if they are going to get hurt anyway, I sure like it when I can be there!)
The bike is OK, and everyone else can grow new skin pretty easily. I doubt that any long term damage was done, except maybe to the flip flops! Roy’s advice is…If you are driving a motor bike, DON”T WEAR FLIP FLOPS!!!
